About the clinic

Experienced therapists & counsellors in Gosforth, Newcastle

Our Newcastle clinic is located in the Grainger Suite at Dobson House, within the Regent Centre business park in Gosforth. It's just a short journey from the city centre and easily reached by Metro, bus or car, with a team of experienced psychologists and therapists accredited with professional bodies such as the HCPC, BACP, BABCP and BPS.

Our team includes clinical psychologists, counselling psychologists and specialist psychological therapists, so whoever you're matched with has genuine depth of expertise in the area you need help with, whether that's anxiety, low mood, trauma, or family and relationship difficulties. Rather than a one size fits all approach, care is built around evidence based practice and tailored to how each person presents, not a fixed programme that everyone follows. The Pathway Team leads this matching process from the very first conversation, drawing on each practitioner's background and area of expertise to find the right fit before your first session even begins.

If travelling to the clinic is harder on a particular week, many of our practitioners also offer online sessions, so your care can continue wherever you are.

Questions before you visit

What people usually ask.

1 Do I need a GP referral to be seen at Gosforth?

No. You can contact Select Psychology directly. The Pathway Team will talk through what is happening and match you to the right practitioner at the clinic or online.

2 Is there parking at the Gosforth clinic?

Yes. The Regent Centre has on-site parking, free for up to one hour. After that it is £1 per hour by card or Pay by Phone (code 806697). There is also disabled parking close to the entrance.

3 What can I be seen for at Gosforth?

Our Gosforth practitioners offer a broad range of support, including CBT, EMDR for trauma and PTSD, specialist assessments, health psychology, and therapy for anxiety, low mood, and neurodevelopmental conditions. If we are not the right fit, the Pathway Team will help you find who is.

4 What happens if my appointment is after 5pm?

The building reception closes at 5pm. After that, an access code is needed to enter Dobson House. The Pathway Team will make sure you have this when your appointment is confirmed.

5 Do you have psychologists in Newcastle who see both adults and children?

Yes. Our Newcastle clinic in Gosforth has practitioners who work with adults, couples, and children, so you don't need to look elsewhere if different family members need support. When you get in touch, our Pathway Team will match you with the right psychologist or therapist based on your age and what you'd like help with.

6 What's the Difference Between a Psychologist, Therapist, and Counsellor?

The terms often overlap, and many people use them interchangeably, but there are some differences. A psychologist has a postgraduate qualification in psychology and often works with more complex or long-standing difficulties. A therapist is a broader term covering practitioners trained in specific approaches, such as CBT or EMDR. A counsellor typically focuses on talking through a current problem or life event in a supportive, structured way. At our Gosforth clinic, you don't need to know which type of practitioner you need in advance. Our Pathway Team will listen to your concerns and match you with the most suitable clinician.
