About Jennie
Hi, my name is Jennie, I am a Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of experience supporting people who are struggling with emotional and psychological distress. I offer expertise within a safe, neuroaffirming and compassionate space and I work hard to ensure I tailor my approach to meet your needs. My goal is to help you to gain an understanding of the way you relate to yourselves and those around you and why you may struggle with this at times, and to help you to learn how to make changes to these patterns and find alternate ways of approaching them to help you grow and move forward in life. I trained originally as a Primary School teacher, before returning to the world of psychology and mental health as I've always felt passionate about this field.
As a psychologist I've worked in a range of NHS roles, including specialist eating disorder, older adult and inpatient services. Most recently I have worked in the Cognitive Analytic Therapy Service, specialising in delivering CAT to a wide range of presentations, as well as delivering psychological therapy within a private team providing assessment, formulation, diagnosis and support for people living with neurodivergence. I am accredited in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) through the Association for Cognitive Analytic Therapy (ACAT) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). As well as CAT I have done training in and draw upon Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), providing an integrated psychological approach. I trained in CAT because I saw, again and again, that people don’t just need someone to help them manage symptoms, they need to understand themselves. CAT is a therapy that takes people seriously as complex human beings with histories, relationships, and deeply-held beliefs about who they are and what they deserve.
I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is at the heart of any meaningful change. Before anything else, you need to feel that the person you’re speaking to genuinely understands you, and that the space you share is a safe one. I bring warmth, honesty and deep professional experience to every piece of work I do. I won’t pretend therapy is easy, it often requires courage and real effort, but I’ll be alongside you for every step of it. I know that coming to therapy, especially for the first time, or after difficult previous experiences of services, takes real courage. My aim is always for you to feel genuinely heard and respected from the very first contact. I work with a diverse range of clients and take great care to ensure my practice is sensitive to issues of culture, identity, race and lived experience. Whoever you are, you are welcome here. If you choose to take this step with me than I look forward to meeting you and working together.
