About Carey
I’m Dr Carey Viala, a highly experienced Clinical Psychologist with a passion for helping individuals overcome their mental health challenges. With a background in mental health spanning 20 years, including 12 years as a qualified Clinical Psychologist, I possess a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field.
Originally from Canada, I completed my undergraduate psychology degree there before moving to the UK, where I’ve lived for the past 21 years. I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Lancaster University. I have completed a number of additional trainings in evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing. This diverse range of therapeutic modalities allows me to tailor treatment plans to your unique needs.
I have extensive experience working within the NHS including providing interventions to adults facing mental health challenges, long-term health conditions, and those affected by cancer and palliative care. I work three days a week with individuals within a medico-legal context to recover from the psychological effects of having a serious accident, including helping them to process their trauma. I am also experienced in working with individuals who are experiencing a variety of difficulties including Imposter Syndrome, self-esteem and addressing relationship-related issues.
My approach is centred around understanding your concerns and goals. By utilising a blend of therapeutic tools and interventions, I will tailor the therapy to meet your specific needs, ensuring a personalised and effective treatment experience. My goal is to understand what you need to live a life that you want to be living and help you to move towards that, no matter what the barriers are.
