We are delighted to welcome our HCPC registered Clinical Psychologists who joined the clinic late this summer, Dr Leonie Lalayiannis, Brenda McLackland and Dr Jenny Johns. Our Clinical Psychologists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS) and follow HCPC standards of conduct, performance and ethics and the BPS Code of Conduct and Professional Guidelines.

Dr Leonie Lalayiannis is a Clinical Psychologist working in both the NHS and privately. She has experience working with clients with a wide range of psychological and emotional issues including low mood, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, adjustment issues and loss of confidence. Leonie draws from a variety of psychological therapy approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy, cognitive analytic therapy, compassion focused therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy as well as mindfulness based approaches to inform her work. She aims to use these approaches in a collaborative and integrative way, tailored to suit the individual and provided in a warm and empathic environment. Her NHS experience working within a Community Mental Health Team and within Occupational Health developed her core skills in assessment, formulation and intervention tailored to individuals with moderate and severe mental health problems while appropriately assessing risk.

Brenda McLackland is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years’ experience working in the NHS. Throughout her time at the NHS, Brenda worked with adults with mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. During the latter half of her career, Brenda specialised in perinatal psychology and worked with parents and babies. Having become fascinated by family relationships, Brenda went on to work with parents of children of all ages. We are delighted to have Brenda join our clinic team and she is passionate about helping people to work through their difficulties and make ongoing improvements to their wellbeing.

Dr Jenny Johns is a Clinical Psychologist who has worked in local NHS Mental Health Services for many years. We are excited about Jenny joining the team at Select Psychology, and being part of a service that will deliver high quality and professional services.   She brings to the team a range of skills and expertise, from working with stress and depression, through to PTSD, complex trauma and personality disorders. Her extensive training reflects a broad range of evidence based psychological approaches: CBT, EMDR, mindfulness, DBT and family/ couples therapy. Jenny believes strongly in the importance of using this training to develop an individual understanding or ‘formulation’ of a person’s difficulties, then using this as the basis for an individually tailored treatment package to meet that person’s needs.

Jenny is looking forward to starting work at the clinic. “What a perfect setting to come to for therapy. Tynemouth is such a beautiful place, and what better place to take a mindful stroll before or after a therapy session.”
