Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of people with mental health problems. Psychiatrists are trained to treat all kinds of mental health problems, treatment can involve medication and therapeutic intervention. Often psychiatrist work alongside over mental health professionals, to provide people with the best care possible.

HOW I WORK WITH SELECT PSYCHOLOGY

In some cases, if I feel a client would benefit from seeing a Clinical Psychologist or a CBT Therapist or a Counsellor, then I will direct them to Select Psychology. It also works the other way as Select Psychology can refer their clients to Integra Psychiatry . This ensures that our clients have access to a wide range of support and are offered the most specialised help, based off their needs.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

I have worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the NHS since 2013. I began working as an independent liaison in 2019. I run a 24/7 Liaison Psychiatry service in Sunderland Royal Hospital, which has won local and national recognition. I am active in medical leadership and teaching and I am currently an Associate Medical Director at a local Mental Health Trust and involved in regional service development.

I have a special interest in the management of chronic pain, persistent physical symptoms and perinatal mental disorders, but I am also experienced in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental disorders including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychosis and personality disorders. I enjoy working in in an integrated manner with professional colleagues to ensure that all aspects of illness, both related to the mind and body, are addressed.
