About Lois
Hello, my name is Lois and I’m a Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years experience of working with adults with a wide variety of psychological difficulties. I qualified in 2016 from Teesside University and since this time I have worked within NHS talking therapies services, neuro-rehabilitation inpatient/outpatient services, and the Northumbria cancer service. I currently work within a specialist psychology service supporting adults with complex trauma.
I often work with people who are struggling with low mood, anxiety, loss, and emotional regulation. This can also involve developing an understanding of how current struggles may link with past experiences of trauma. This is a collaborative process where we work together to focus on what feels relevant for you, and at a pace which feels comfortable and safe for you.
I adopt an integrative approach to therapy, drawing on a range of psychological and therapeutic models in order to develop a collaborative and individualised understanding of your experiences. In addition to my core Clinical Psychology training, I have completed further training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), somatic therapy, and neuro-affirming approaches to therapy.
I have an interest in helping people to identify and understand their relationship to themselves and to others; and to notice how we may repeat particular ways of being that we would like to change. I have a particular interest in the nervous system and the use of somatic therapy techniques to help with emotional regulation. Part of this work is understanding the connection between our mind and our body. I also see great value in the use of meditation, internal family systems therapy and EMDR.
I am late in life diagnosed with autism and ADHD, and I have a particular interest in supporting neuro-divergent adults. I adopt a neuro-affirming approach to therapy – where we understand how neuro-divergence shows up for you so that you can better understand yourself. We will also think carefully about about how to adjust and tailor the therapy experience to make it accessible for you so that you feel safe, heard and seen. Developing a trusting working relationship together can be one of the most important mechanisms of change in therapy. I strive to offer a warm, welcoming, and down-to-earth approach to help us build a non-judgmental trusting space for you.
