Real plastic surgeons are on the GMC specialist register and have undergone a rigorous training programme for many years. We assess and treat patients requiring surgery to restore form and function. Typically plastic surgeons are involved in skin, soft tissue, breast and head and neck cancer treatment, to name a few, and general reconstruction to repair tissues. These niche skills translate into cosmetic surgery, to offset the ageing process or to change the body shape or appearance for a variety of reasons – to re-shape, lift, suspend or contour. Unfortunately many ‘practitioners’ call themselves cosmetic surgeons without any qualifications. To be a real plastic and cosmetic surgeon, you must appear on the GMC register.

HOW I WORK WITH SELECT PSYCHOLOGY

I work closely with Select Psychology because I truly believe mental wellbeing and health have a major impact on how we perceive ourselves and our physical health. Particularly in the field of appearance-changing surgery. I work with the Select team to ensure my patients have a holistic and rounded treatment plan to get the very best results. We work collaboratively to achieve the very best results where psychological support is needed. Particularly in my revision surgery practice where patients are dissatisfied with surgery performed elsewhere and need to restart their surgical journey.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

I am a consultant and head of the plastic surgery department at Newcastle Hospitals and have expertise in facial and body surgery. I work in a number of tertiary teams that deliver expert care to our population and the North of England. My philosophy in cosmetic surgery is to provide natural, lasting results for personal confidence and optimal function. I also lead international research collaborations in plastic surgery and train the next generation of specialists. I am fortunate to be a regular invited speaker nationally and internationally on the cross section of our craft and am an international award winning surgeon.
