About Lisa

Hi, my name is Lisa. I am a HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist and Accredited Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Practitioner, with almost 20 years’ experience working across a range of NHS mental health services. I currently work as a Principal Clinical Psychologist within adult inpatient services. As a relational practitioner, my work is grounded in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), which can help us to better understand how past experiences and relationships may influence current patterns of thinking, feeling, relating and coping. I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where we can work together to make sense of the difficulties you are experiencing, develop greater self-understanding and build confidence and choice, so that you can move towards the life you want to live.

I have worked as a Clinical Psychologist across a wide range of NHS services, including forensic and prison mental health services, community learning disability services and specialist inpatient settings. Throughout my career I have supported people experiencing a range of difficulties, including trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and relationship difficulties. I have a particular interest in working with people who have experienced adversity or trauma and who find themselves caught in unhelpful coping strategies or relationship patterns. I am interested in helping people to understand how these patterns have developed and how they may begin to develop more helpful ways of responding.

Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) forms the foundation of my practice. CAT is a relational therapy that explores how our early experiences shape the ways we see ourselves, relate to others and manage life’s challenges. Alongside CAT, I also draw upon Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) where these may be helpful. This means that therapy is integrated and tailored to your individual needs and goals, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

At the heart of my approach is a relational, collaborative, compassionate and trauma-informed way of working. I believe that difficulties make most sense when understood compassionately in the context of a person’s life experiences and relationships. Together, we can explore patterns that may be contributing to distress, whether these emerge in relationships, emotional responses or ways of coping. Developing a clearer understanding of these patterns can create greater choice in how you respond to yourself, your relationships and the challenges you face.

I am mindful that taking the first step towards therapy can feel daunting. It takes courage to share your story with someone, particularly if you have been managing things on your own for some time. As such, I always strive to create a therapeutic relationship where you feel safe, heard and understood, and where we can work at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Please be assured that you do not need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. We will begin by exploring together what has brought you to therapy, what feels difficult currently, and what you would like to be different. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to work alongside you to understand what is feeling difficult for you and what you would like to be different. From there, we can make sense of your experiences and identify meaningful ways forward. My aim is to support and empower you to develop greater understanding, compassion, confidence and agency in your own recovery and wellbeing.

If you feel that working with me sounds like it might be a good fit for you, I look forward to meeting with you and exploring how we might work together on your therapy journey.
