DR MATILDA MOFFETT

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Select Psychology

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

After qualifying in 2006, I started an NHS role in Health Psychology – working with clients with diabetes and weight management needs then in 2009 I started another NHS role in the Bariatric Surgery Service and Weight Management Service. In 2008 I started independent practice – working with adults with a range of mental health issues including anxietyphobiasdepression and eating disorders, primarily utilising a cognitive behavioural therapy approach. My private work has continued and in 2016 I became clinical director of Select Psychology in Tynemouth where I have a regular clinic as well as operating at the Nuffield Hospital in Newcastle. In 2020 left the NHS to focus on my private work and continue to work within the NICE guidance and maintain strong collaborative links with NHS professionals working in private pratice.

I have a warm and friendly style that allows people to feel at ease and talk about their issues in a way that feels comfortable. My work is always non-judgmental and it is important to me to have an individually tailored and collaborative approach. This allows people the opportunity to better understand and address their issues through developing coping skills and ultimately achieve their goals in therapy.

I am trained in a range of psychological therapies including:-

Additionally, I offer specialist assessment for Bariatric Surgery and Cosmetic Surgery.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM OUR THERAPISTS

We carry out rigorous checks and vet all our therapists before they join the team. They must meet with our high standards of professional specification which includes:

First, we carry out a triage step during a 15-minute free initial telephone consultation. Depending on the challenges you’re facing, we will then recommend a counsellor, CBT therapist or clinical psychologist.

We also have clinic locations throughout the North, so there is usually one not too far from you.

As a result, we can usually offer an appointment quickly and at a time and place convenient for you. But, above all, tailored to your needs.
