JAN ALBERTSEN

CBT Therapist
Professional background and experience

Hi, my name is Jan and during the last 20 years I have worked as a therapist in Higher education, Primary health care, the voluntary sector and private practice. Since 2014 I have specialised in providing CBT to clients struggling with anxiety, low mood and low self-esteem. I spent many years working with young people (aged 11-25) and students. I am an experienced CBT therapist with a background in counselling.

This background and my warm therapeutic style mean that I am able to develop a trusting relationship which enables the therapy to work at a greater depth. This helps me to develop a deep understanding of the difficulties my clients are facing. I use the structured CBT model to overcome these problems and find the best way forward using tried and tested
techniques and approaches. I use a gentle and supportive approach to guide you on your therapeutic journey. This enables you to take a step back from your issues and see the negative processes more
clearly. It helps you make different choices in your life.

This can involve untangling complex emotions, processing traumatic experiences,
giving you mental and emotional clarity and helping you find your way through your
own emotional world. Then it empowers you to develop a different mindset and use
evidence-based techniques and approaches to make different choices. It liberates you
from the old negative patterns, which have led to anxiety and low mood, and enables
you to develop a new healthier mindset.

I am also a qualified EMDR practitioner and use that approach, often alongside the
CBT, to help you process traumatic memories.

What to expect from our Therapists

We carry out rigorous checks and vet all our therapists before they join the team. They must meet with our high standards of professional specification which includes:

This means that the mental health professional you see will be qualified, experienced and competent.

We are a private mental health clinic and have a number of therapists with different specialities. Because of this, we can offer therapies to help with a wide range of mental health issues from Anxiety to PTSD and child psychology.

First, we carry out a triage step during a 15-minute free initial telephone consultation. Depending on the challenges you’re facing, we will then recommend a counsellor, CBT therapist or clinical psychologist.

We also have clinic locations throughout the North, so there is usually one not too far from you.

As a result, we can usually offer an appointment quickly and at a time and place convenient for you. But, above all, tailored to your needs.

If you’re interested in  booking an appointment with Jan Albertsen, book a free initial consultation here.
Please note, not all of our therapists work from all our clinic locations. Contact us for information on which therapists it is possible to see at which locations.
