DR HELEN CLARK
COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGIST
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
Hello, My name is Helen.
I am a Counselling Psychologist who has been practicing for over 15 years in NHS Adult Mental Health Services and more recently in NHS Physical Health Services. My practice involves supporting individuals experiencing a broad range of emotional, relational and psychological difficulties.
I practice using an integrative psychological approach. My therapeutic style is informed by approaches I have taken further training in such as Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). As a Counselling Psychologist I also draw from approaches such as Polyvagal Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Transactional analysis (TA) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT).
An integrative style enables me to work with individuals to tailor their appointments around their individual needs and intentions for therapy. I have a warm, flexible and curious/explorative style.
Please hold in mind that I do not use symptom lists, diagnostic labels, or manual-based treatments in my practice. If this is an approach you are looking for then I would not be best placed to work alongside you.
We often seek therapy because we have a question, we find ourselves in a dilemma, feel stuck in a familiar relationship pattern, feel distressed. You may feel a certain way and not know why. You may not know how you feel or what you want but you know you don’t feel right or settled. It is all a starting point for therapy. There is no right or wrong way to be, think and feel.
If you are wanting to create some space to understand yourself more, make sense of why you feel the way you do please get in touch.
