What is solution focused therapy?

It considers a person’s present and future circumstances and goals rather than past experiences. The client is encouraged to develop a vision for the future and is then supported to use their skills, resources and abilities to make the changes necessary to reach their goals. It is grounded in the belief that people coming to therapy know, on some level, what change is needed to improve their lives. They just need help clarifying their goals. It is strength and resilience focused therapy.

What are the benefits?

Solution focused therapy is future and strength orientated. Because of this it works well alongside family and couples therapy. It moves away from blame and what has gone wrong in the past and instead encourages the process of change and moving on. It is also more likely to be shorter term than other therapies.
