What is it?

Abuse can come in many forms but they all result in behaviour towards a person that causes that individual harm. Abuse can be happening in the here and now or have happened in the past, it can happen to anyone at any age and there can be more than one victim. The most commonly recognised forms of abuse are physical abuse, domestic violence, sexual abuse, psychological/emotional abuse, financial abuse, organisational abuse, discrimination, modern slavery and neglect.
