Hi my name is Jenna and I am a registered clinical psychologist. I have previous NHS experience working for a personality disorder service, a complex treatment service for military veterans and a mental health ward for offenders.
My main area of expertise is working with trauma. Psychological trauma is an emotional response to distressing events in which a person may have felt threatened, humiliated, rejected, abandoned, invalidated, unsafe, trapped, ashamed or powerless. These experiences may impact negatively on emotions, self-worth or relationships and result in unhelpful ways of coping such as avoidance, self-harming or alcohol misuse. Sometimes a person isn’t aware that these distressing events are the underlying cause or have contributed to their problems. Individuals that have experienced traumatic events may have been given a diagnosis of depression, anxiety, mood disorder, PTSD, complex PTSD or personality disorder. I aim to look beyond these labels to come to a collaborative understanding of a person’s difficulties and to empower individuals to find ways to make positive changes to their life and heal from trauma.
I believe that working with trauma should include mind-body interventions. This is about balancing the top-down approach of talk therapy with bottom-up interventions that focus on sensations and emotions in the body. Exploring posture, breath, movement, and bodily awareness can help individuals develop a felt sense of trust, connection, safety, and stabilisation. I draw from a number of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. I tend to integrate a number of these approaches based on individual need and above all focus on building a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship.

We are a private mental health clinic and have a number of therapists with different specialities. Because of this, we can offer therapies to help with a wide range of mental health issues from Anxiety to PTSD and child psychology.
First, we carry out a triage step during a 15-minute free initial telephone consultation. Depending on the challenges you’re facing, we will then recommend a counsellor, CBT therapist or clinical psychologist.
We also have clinic locations throughout the North, so there is usually one not too far from you.
