Professional background and experience

I have worked in a range of settings including NHS Primary care, a leading mental health charity and in private practice.  I work with adults experiencing a broad range of mental health issues in both short term and long term treatment.  My broad-ranging training and interests in psychotherapy, psychotherapeutic counselling, EMDR trauma treatment and mindfulness allows me to draw from a range of approaches to find the ‘right fit’ for each individual client.    This is referred to as “integrative practice” where the treatment methods are always tailored to suit the client’s unique needs and preferences. I find the beauty and strength of this approach is its flexibility; offering the freedom to carefully test different approaches and to flow seamlessly from one approach to another.

As you may imagine, mental health work is not ‘one-size-fits-all’.  This applies to your choice of therapist too.  For such personal and important work you need to find someone you feel you can trust, work closely with and of course, talk freely with.

My job is to meet you where you are at right now and relate to you on a very human level.  It’s about you being heard and understood then together finding a way forward.  It’s about using simple, down-to-earth language moving at your pace and with endless patience.

My core belief is that the therapeutic relationship is central to the healing process in therapy.  This has been the subject of much academic research over the years.  I give every client my genuine interest and endeavour to create an open, friendly, calm, compassionate and non-judgmental environment to work in.  Not to say that it won’t, at times, be challenging but this will be handled with empathy, compassion and always respect.

What to expect from our Therapists

We carry out rigorous checks and vet all our therapists before they join the team. They must meet with our high standards of professional specification which includes:

This means that the mental health professional you see will be qualified, experienced and competent.

We are a private mental health clinic and have a number of therapists with different specialities. Because of this, we can offer therapies to help with a wide range of mental health issues from Anxiety to PTSD and child psychology.

First, we carry out a triage step during a 15-minute free initial telephone consultation. Depending on the challenges you’re facing, we will then recommend a counsellor, CBT therapist or clinical psychologist.

We also have clinic locations throughout the North, so there is usually one not too far from you.

As a result, we can usually offer an appointment quickly and at a time and place convenient for you. But, above all, tailored to your needs.

Please note, not all of our therapists work from all our clinic locations. Contact us for information on which therapists it is possible to see at which locations.

As well as Andrew we have a number of other Clinical Psychologists, CBT Therapists and Counsellors in our team.
